GamutMap.de – Geometric Color Space Visualization
GamutMap.de is an interactive tool for the geometric visualization of color spaces and their mutual relationships. Its primary focus lies on gamut boundaries, color space volumes, and the spatial relations between standardized color systems.
The visualizations support conceptual orientation in color space; they are not intended for the spectral analysis of physical materials.
Positioning within the ARBE λ*
GamutMap.de is not part of the ARBE λ* methodology.
While ARBE λ* is derived from measured reflectance spectra (380–730 nm) and defines a physically determined ordering parameter, GamutMap.de operates on the level of derived color space coordinates (e.g. CIE Lab, RGB gamuts).
| Aspect | GamutMap.de | ARBE λ* |
|---|---|---|
| Data basis | Color space coordinates | Measured spectra |
| Perspective | Geometric | Physical / energetic |
| Purpose | Spatial orientation | Structural stability analysis |
| Role | Visualization | Analytical framework |
What GamutMap.de Shows
- Color gamuts and their boundaries
- Spatial relations between different color spaces
- Geometric overlap and exclusion
- Conceptual differences between working color spaces
All representations are model-based and illustrative, not material- or process-specific.
What GamutMap.de Explicitly Does Not Provide
- No spectral analysis
- No material evaluation
- No metamerism assessment
- No optimization or recipe derivation
- No color prediction
The visualization does not replace measurement and does not constitute physical analysis.
Deliberate Methodological Separation
GamutMap.de is embedded here explicitly as a complementary visualization tool.
It answers the question:
“Where is a color located geometrically within a color space?”
It does not answer:
“How is this color spectrally structured?”
“Where is its energetic balance point?”
These questions belong exclusively to the ARBE λ* framework.
Summary
GamutMap.de extends the view spatially,
ARBE λ* orders physically.
They are complementary tools, but not interchangeable.
